Our Way Forward- Towards a Better Future - Adult Literacy in India

Inner Wheel Clubs in India are working on a war footing with an ambition of aiding the literacy mission in the country. A tremendous amount of effort is being put in to bring education for everyone by providing good infrastructure in schools. 2814 teachers were given "Nation Builder Awards" in appreciation of their tireless work.

Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators who also need to be educated to brush up on their skills. 2979 teachers have undergone training so far. The process is still continuing.

The modern use of electronic educational technology (also called e- learning) is fast growing and will soon be a dominant form of education. With this in mind Inner Wheel clubs have started have started providing E- learning kits to schools. 207 kits have been given so far with more to go. 27 E- learning centers have also been opened to help facilitate learning.

Education can take place in formal or informal settings. An educated adult contributes significantly towards an overall progress of a family and nation. Inner Wheel clubs have started 197 adult literacy centers.

Asha Kiran - an initiative to send children in the age group of 7- 14 years, back to school. 1690 children have benefitted under this program.

A good school environment is one of the major factors contributing towards the success of good education. Happy Schools - a project aimed to select elementary schools and provide/ upgrade infrastructural and co- scholastic facilities to make them secure and happy learning places for both students and teachers. 190 schools have become HAPPY SCHOOLS and 400 are in the process of becoming one.

The ratio of children in the developing world attending school, has increased, and we hope to bring change and make it last.

Education is both the means and end to a better life and in the process help evolve as a better citizen.
