 IWA 50 Year Badges

District A61 celebrated and acknowledged the enormous contributions of two matriarchs of IWA at two separate functions in April and May

Brenda Bowden Member at Large and Past District Chairman (1989-1990)/Council member (1990-2000) was presented with an IWA 50 year badge at the April District Meeting by IWA President Karen Winters and A61 District Chairman Melba Mahoney.  Brenda transferred with her husband Don over a lifetime career and as they moved Brenda continued her association with Inner Wheel.  Brenda has been a member of Inner Wheel Clubs of Adelaide East, North Sydney, Box Hill, Wellington New Zealand and Auckland New Zealand. Brenda has been Club President three times and Club Secretary a several times.

Joy Thomas, IWC of Shepparton and Past District Chairman (1996-1997)/Council member (1997-1998) was presented with an IWA 50 year badge at the Present and Past Executive Luncheon held in May by Past IIW Board Director Val Corva and A61 District Chairman Melba Mahoney.

Joy Thomas joined the IWC of Echua in August, 1966.  Although she and her husband Wally moved to Shepparton in 1976, Joy remained a paid up member of Echuca Club and travelled to the monthly meetings.  Her husband joined Rotary Club of  Shepparton and encouraged her to agitate for a Shepparton Inner Wheel Club.  IWC of Shepparton was Chartered on 10 May, 1985 with current IW members Joy Thomas, Ruth Shellie and Annette Orrman as Charter members.

Joy held all positions between the Echuca and Shepparton IW Clubs and went on to be involved at District level.  Her husband died one month before becoming District Chairman, but with her trusted friend Noela Laws as her District Secretary and the amazing support of her Executive members Joy took on the role and gave it “her all”.  Noela went on to be District Chairman in the year 1999-2000.

Joy helped to form the IWC of Wangaratta which was Chartered in December, 1993.
